How does the silence detection work?
It measures loudness in short windows across the clip and treats anything below the sensitivity threshold as silence. Sensitivity controls how quiet counts as silent, minimum gap length ignores brief pauses shorter than that, and padding leaves a small buffer of quiet around every cut so trims don't sound abrupt.
Will it cut out quiet parts I actually want to keep?
Only if the sensitivity is set aggressively and the quiet part is longer than the minimum gap length. Lower the sensitivity, raise the minimum gap, or add more padding, and the before/after stats update instantly so you can check the result before exporting.
