Remove background from image — free and private

Erase any photo's background to a clean, transparent PNG using an AI model that runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded. The AI downloads once and is saved for every removal after that.

How it works

  1. Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP photo. It stays on your device.
  2. The AI downloads once, then separates the subject from the background.
  3. Download the transparent PNG — or fill the background with a solid color first.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The image is decoded and processed entirely in your browser using a local AI model — it never leaves your device, even though the AI itself downloads from a CDN once.

Why does the first use take a while?

The first time you use it, your browser downloads the AI (up to ~88 MB, depending on your device). It's saved after that, so every removal from then on starts instantly — no repeat download.

What file do I get back?

A PNG with the background erased to transparency, ready to drop onto any other background. You can optionally fill the erased area with a solid color instead before downloading.

Is there a file size or resolution limit?

Images up to 64 megapixels (about 8000×8000) decode safely in a browser tab; beyond that the tool asks for a smaller copy rather than risk crashing the tab. There's no watermark or signup either way.

Does it work on hair, fur and other fine detail?

The model handles soft edges like hair and fur reasonably well for a fully in-browser tool, though very fine or wispy strands can lose some detail compared to a professional editor. It works on any subject — people, products, animals or objects — with clear subject/background contrast working best.
